Influence of administration routes and delivery systems on the pharmacokinetic fate (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) and pharmacodynamic behavior (analgesia and side-effects) of opioids, and the relation between the pharmacokinetic – and the pharmacodynamic profiles of opioids (PK-PD modelling) in both the clinical and experimental setting

Quality assurance of pain treatment in both chronic - and cancer pain patients

Development of tools/questionnaires for evaluating side-effects of analgesics with the aim ptimisation of the balance between the pain relieving effect and the side effects of analgesics

Quality assurance of the handling of medicine at intensive care units, elaboration of specific  guidelines for handling of the most commonly used drugs (antibiotics, inotropics, sedatives, analgesics, electrolytes and parenteral nutrition)

Educational Activities

Educational activities have included a broad spectrum of pharmaceutical disciplines, such a pharmaceutical technology, biopharmaceutics, drug delivery/formulation, pharmacotherapy, clinical pharmacy, social pharmacy, and pharmacology at both pre graduate and post graduate levels.
Activities have included teaching at all levels including lectures, laboratory exercises, work shops, tutorials, examinations, as well as course planning, managing and evaluation.

Further activities have included supervision of more than 125 master students, 8 pregraduate scholars, 18 Ph.D. students and participation in assessment of 10 Ph.D. theses.

Educational activities have also included teaching at other universities and continuing education of healthcare professionals and employees in the medicinal industry.
